Based in Germany, but loved across the world, Porsche has long provided racing enthusiasts with the ultimate in sports cars. From coupes to four-doors to SUVs, Porsche has adapted to changes and thrived under pressure to deliver what can only be deemed an expansive lineup of model and trims.

Among the 50 plus available Porsche vehicles, you’re sure to find the perfect model for you — but how do you navigate all the different configurations?

That’s where we come in. Below you’ll find a complete breakdown of what all the Porsche models are and what their names mean.

Learn the Differences Between All Porsche Models and Trims

We’re sure you’ve heard of the 911, but there are many more options than just the base trim. For example, have you heard of the 911 Turbo, 911 Targa 4, or 911 GTS?

Depending on the trim, you’ll see a series of words, numbers, or letters tacked onto the model name — and each has a different yet important meaning.

  • Carrera: The name given to the base 911 and its variants, Carrera stems from a Mexican endurance race called the Carrera Panamericana where Porsche performed extremely well with the 550 Spyder.
  • E-Hybrid: These models feature an electric motor in addition to the combustion engine that emits less CO2 than traditional models.
  • Executive: Porsche vehicles with this designation have an extended body, offering 15 cm of enhanced space.
  • GTS: Standing for Gran Turismo Sport, GTS is applied to some of the most athletic and exclusive Porsche models.
  • RS: Models with the letters RS (RennSport) are designed for motor racing but are adapted into street-legal vehicles.
  • S: Porsche vehicles with an “S” in their name boast more powerful engines.
  • Targa: Targa is exclusive to the 911 and is an open model that features a roll-over protection bar and fixed roof section.
  • Turbo: Featuring an engine with an exhaust gas turbocharger, models with the designation “Turbo” offer a powerful boost.
  • 4: This number designates models with all-wheel drive (AWD).
  • Cabriolet: These models are convertibles.

Now let’s move on to the different models.

This two-seater convertible is the most affordable Porsche in the sports car market, but still provides the performance expected of this top-of-the-line brand.
